Breathing responses:
Train yourself to breath comfortably at the same rate throughout the interview — until the lie detector test devices are removed from your body. During the exam, after answering a control question, do one of the following:
Breath more slowly for 5 to 15 seconds, then resume normal breathing before the next question. Hold your breath for 4 to 5 seconds, then resume normal breathing before the next question. Exhale more slowly than you inhale for 5 to 15 seconds, then resume normal breathing before the next question. Take several shallow breaths, then resume normal breathing before the next question.

Heart rate responses:
Teach yourself how to increase your blood pressure and heart rate, using your thoughts and your body. During the test, after answering a control question, do one of the following:
Quickly bite the side of your tongue hard enough to hurt a little. This will get your heart rate to speed up, and is less noticeable than using a tack in your shoe or other pain-inducing countermeasures. Practice this one in front of a mirror, so you aren’t obvious when you do it.
Use your imagination to speed up your heart. Quickly think of a car crash, a knife going into you, or anything that will provoke a fear response. If you have a vivid imagination, this is an easy technique to use. If not, practice while taking your pulse.
